Growing strawberries from seeds can be a rewarding experience, but timing is crucial for a successful harvest. Experts recommend planting strawberry seeds at the right time to ensure strong growth and a bountiful crop.
Strawberry seeds should be sown indoors in late winter to early spring (January to March) to give them a head start before transplanting outdoors. However, in warmer climates, they can also be started in the fall.
Chill the Seeds – Place seeds in the refrigerator for 2-4 weeks before planting to improve germination.
Use Seed Trays – Sow seeds in a light, well-draining soil mix and gently press them onto the surface (don’t bury them).
Provide Light & Warmth – Keep trays in a warm, sunny spot (65-75°F/18-24°C) or under a grow light.
Water Gently – Keep the soil moist but not soggy.
Transplant Outdoors – Once seedlings have 3-4 true leaves and the risk of frost has passed (typically in late spring), move them to the garden.
